Well I had another Go at inserting the carbs properly.
I've got three Go engines, 2x GX5-R, and 1 GXII-5HRO.
The one GX5-R that I have been using, I was able to jam the carb all the way in there. Basicly I smeared silicone shock oil on the O-ring in the case, and on the carb bit that goes in there, and then I slid the carb as far out of the case as possible, and then really jammed it in there. I did that with the GXII also, and it worked on that one too.
But the one GX5-R that is unused and new, I could just not smash it in there, tried like four times.. man.. hard work getting those carbs seated properly in there!
Got to say I have never experianced that. Had a few that would keep popping back up, so you had to hold them in there while you tightened the pinch bolt, but never one that would not go in full stop.
One thing - you do have the pinch bolt halves completely removed from the crankcase while you are trying to insert the carb - yes ?
The pinch bolts work very effectively, and if you have them just loosened off but still in the crankcase you may well have trouble seating the carb. Remove them completely, insert the carb, refit the pinch bolt halves, then seat the carb and tighten.
