GT Engine
For the past few years I have been running this class. The races have been done with several thoughts as to what the motor spec should be. Some races or series have spec'd the actual motors you can run, some have used a $200 limit and others have it set to run what ya' brung or can afford. Some like the Ipanema races run two classes - Spec and Open.
On a few other threads there has been a discusion as to what would make sense, and I believe that each club, track or event should do what they feel works for thier racers. Most that want the lower engine cost, do that for out of pocket expenses. But most that are competitive (I know I am) would change out the carb or bearings if it made a cheap engine better. Others would like to purchse better stuff out of the box and not have to buy the additional items.
However, I think if we can get some consistency it will help the racers and promotors in setting up events for this class. Heck ROAR could even give us some unified rules.
So Here is a list of engines that I found using some of the on-line places we all purchase stuff from. I know I have not found every option, but it is a good list to look at. First all the engines are .21 to .28 in displacement, they are also "Buggy" or "Rally" based but any engine within the displacement would be accepted for the open class.
To me the price points make sense at $200 or $250 or $280 with anything beyond that should just be run in an open class. If I had my preference, we should be running the spec class (more cars in a class) and leave open for the 1/8 $WD guys. These cars are easier on the pocket book, and look cool out racing on the track.
So look at the attached list and post your thoughts.
