In section 4.4 of the FAQ, there are links to articles from Julius and Glenn - if you read the one from Glenn, you'll see he recomends using grease on the diff balls. It is a preference thing and you certainly don't need to do it - but you'll probably find that the diff remains smoother longer when you use grease (Mugen Super Grease)

2. Place a small amount of diff lube in the palm of your hand, then roll diff balls in it to coat them lightly.
