None of the carbs looked worth messing with but I've got a few old REX 3 needle carbs in a drawer around here somewhere.

Just in case that bombed I went ahead and snagged one of the GXII 5RHO motors from amain. Now that I've got a specific motor on the way, can ya'll school me up on this thing? I've read the run in instructions on the NZ Go site and will print them before I get started so I think I've got that covered unless directed elsewhere. Also, will I need to go ahead and find a rod just in case? If so, please point me in that direction, and what (turbo) plugs are working best for you guys?

With any luck this engine will live in Kyosho GT2 so I'm thinking mostly just winding it up then let it coast down will be the bulk of it's duties so any high rev pipes I should look at that work well with the GXII would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
The GXII should be nice in the GT2. They are 34 grams lighter than the older GX motor (and most other models out there), plus the low profile should be good with any low slung bodies you run.
The O'Donnell 97T seems to be the universal plug of choice on 25% or 30% fuel. No extra shimming required for 30%.
The matching GO EFRA 2072 will bring both top and bottom out on the GXII. You could try the Dynamite 086 for more top end. The guys used to run these on the GX 3 and 5 ports with quite a bit of success.

Just follow the tuning guide (under the run-in guide) on the website. Everyrthing you need to know should be there.
NB: The needle settings on the run-in guide are for the 3 needle carb motors only. So follow the settings below:

Initial run in settings - HSN 1 hour in from flush. LSN 0.5 turn in from flush.
You may have to lean the bottom slightly depending on pipe and fuel.

Just lean out slightly from here as you get through the tanks.
Race tune should be around - HSN 2 - 3 hours in from flush. LSN 0.75 - 1.25 turns in from flush, once again depending on pipe and fuel etc.

Read up on tuning the long taper LSN too. It's in the tuning guide and tips on the site. A little different from traditional short needle carbs.

Let me know how it goes in the GT2, as I have just put an order in for the new Serpent 1/8 GT Cobra. I don't race on-road as such, but just want something to hoon around with for an adrenalin rush on some nice big flat areas around my place.
I don't like running my good off-road buggy on the asphalt, so something purpose built for the road seemed like a good idea.
I have a GX-7R that I am going to run in it. The old 7-R has bundles of top end, so should be some fun
