Im certainly not the authority on this... but yes, it does seem that you are getting 17.5 blinky confused with a true "sportsman" class.

AFAIK, ROAR is no longer making a distinction between "sportsman" and sponsored drivers at National events. Events like the IIC and Snowbirds do offer an Amateur Sedan class, but that is not being offered at the Carpet Nationals.

You are free to put whatever stickers you like on your race bodies and wear whatever clothing you like. There will be sponsored drivers racing in the Stock/17.5 Blinky classes....
