Yes, going thinner in the center will help it track better in the bumps. It helps stop the front and rear of the car from fighting each other in rough conditions. I have gone all the way down to 3 in the center on a really rough track.

You will lose some on power traction, because most of the power will end up going to the spinning front tires. Although the buggy wont launch as hard, it will track much straighter.
