Yes you should.
Without knowing what he is running you cannot help him with how to setup the ESC (setup as in what software to load, what functions he should use or whether he actually needs to do anything at all). You answered after he said he was running 13.5 in Victoria which is boost racing. Then you can help with suggestions on what to do and what will work for that racing thus saving him destroying motors or even ESC's.
I try to help racers but first they must let us know what they are racing. If for example he was racing "blinky" then he would need to be directed in that direction , not to the boost software. Sorry if this really upset people
It simply makes helping far easier. Also non boost racing has changed ... you cannot run Mod software ... you must run "blinky" mode software which has virtually no setting changes (basically only brake and drag brake) Things have changed in recent times
