I had a similar problem with my RS a couple years back...turned out in my case it was dirt on one of the sensors. Given that yours doesn't act up until a crash I would say it is still a sensor issue of some sort but that you have a bad connection somewhere. Either a broken solder joint on the sensor board on the motor, a bad sensor cable, or a broken solder joint on the sensor plug on the ESC.
