You are most likely geared/timed incorrectly for your conditions... This weekend there were a few Reedy 17.5s in the A at the Midwest Race at Grand Rapids. Some of the best stock TC racers in the nation were there and the Reedy held its own.
Myself and Mockerman ran 4.17 with timing at the start of the screw. I believe Hebert was at the start of the cut-out for the screw at around a 3.9 FDR. I also believe Goetz had one in as well. Horsepower was not an issue for any of us.
This is for an average midwest style carpet track. Your current settings (timing) as well as track type would also help get you better information.
