I've seen people go to Home Depot and purchase a piece of melomine board aka cabinet board. If you look close at the Hudy Pit Board it's pretty much just a thick piece of Cabinet with siding and a fancy sticker on top.
I might end up going to a thicker board. I know of one guy who has a 1 inch thick plastic clear pit board. No flex!
