Well listening to the car would help me figure that out. But im pretty sure when you say the car shifts into second , that alone makes me believe that the rpm is too high.

Crappy glow-plug , but shouldnt cause problems. Youll want to replace that when you can afford it. Get a different model or type all together. If its an A3 and its leaking , dont get anymore a3's...

Welcome to the forum,

I figure 1mm is hard to eye sometimes. Just turn your idle screw down a bit. Richen the low-speed a bit as well. These two together should help some.
