Any and all new platforms go through some growing pains, it's just part of the deal.. if 6 screws bankrupt your rc budget than a awesomatix is probably the wrong car for you to begin with.

Mine didn't have any rust, but I used 1500 grit sandpaper with mother's anyhow. Polishing moving parts is always a good idea.
