Sounds like a similar issue to what happened to me a couple months ago. Check the clutchbell bearings, mine exploded and wouldnít disengage the clutch from the engine

Definitely take the engine out. It didn't hit me as to why I was going through sets of clutch bell bearings until I remembered how I wash my cars with the engines still in.
