I think the voltage of the 3S would fry the motor.

Any decent (think 25C 4000mAh or similar, and from a good company) 2S LiPo should be more than capable of handling the amperage draw.

Sounds like you were drawing too much current from the battery and it overheated.

I use a screwdriver dedicated to tuning and stopping my engine, with a plastic handle of course. The end of the screwdriver gets all chewed up, but it works great for me.

As long as the heated air is moving away from the ESC, you're good. Of course, the efficiency might be different, but probably not very much.

You are better off not using the charger, and adding another battery if possible.

Also, I'd reccomend against the 8.0, get the 4.6, it has more than enough power, with great economy. As in, an average of 7 minutes per tank, with 8 minutes or more being possible.
