Mine had to be plugged into the fan connector on the ESC to work right. Unplug the fan and plug the box into the ESC that way.

Yeah, that POS $30 servo has no trouble keeping up with the way I drive. My buddy uses the 1258 in his Losi SCTE.

Might I suggest; "regular Joe" performance testing for new prototypes in the future? I'm sure the manufacturers will have enough willing volunteers to crash new products.
