I try to go with a low amp draw motor which is more effecient and powerful than a high amp draw motor. A motor drawing low amp doesn't heat up as much which equals to more power throughout the race.

As far as aligning the hoods, I align the brushes to the comm by moving the brush hoods instead of aligning the brush hoods to one another. Like jzone said, it'll get you in the area.
