If there is a control box I would think the resistors for the LED's are inside the box and not in the wires. A resistor is needed to give a LED a direct voltage.

You have an RC battery so it has a Futaba, Hitec or BEC connector.
So you need a plg to adapt from your connector to banana plugs.

Charger to NiMh setting. 2A and start!
