Those old 5800 novak motors are 8.5 turns, but the bonded rotor instead of sintered adds a that extra 800 kv but is missing good chunk of torque. Not a bad 2wd buggy motor if you can keep it cool.

It doesn't hurt to swap electronics in trying to isolate the problem. Definitely try the savox.
