If you find a small enough screw you can probably make it fit. Maybe post pics so we have a better idea of what we're dealing with here

I know you said all the or rings were in place, but the bottom part of the shock body is critically important, all those o rings have to be perfect other wise the oil will leak out and run down the...

I think its the oil weight you chose, 80wt is pretty thick for savage shocks. You may want to try something thinner. And before you do that take the oil out and make sure the piston moves up and down...
