I don't know where you see the need for 3 diff shims. The manual shows one one each side of the diff inside the outer gearbox (page 16 in the manual) and states X2 for two diff shims used for that...

wheel size 81mm vs 83mm

Might be a silly question, but what is the difference in running the ae 81mm wheels as apposed to the 83mm wheels that come in the kit. Both wheels are listed in the ae 8.2e parts list on their site.
