Here is an idea. Plug a servo into the ESC slot on the receiver and see that it moves forward and backward without jumps. It is does something funny as it goes into reverse, then maybe the receiver...

Try lowering your Throttle EPA in both forward...

Try lowering your Throttle EPA in both forward and brake to 100% and then recalibrate you ESC. Some ESC's can only take so much pulse width change.

You may have to reverse the throttle channel...
