I plan on using the kit hexes and new front wheels personally. Using the older wheels and wider hexes will not have the same performance as there are different flex characteristics between the two...

The pinion gear on the motor is the normal 48 pitch pinion gear.
You may have gotten confused with talking about the front and rear diffs using a ring and pinion style gear.
