The stock motor looks to be a 15 turn which is much milder than a 4000 kv motor. I would try an 11 tooth pinion gear as long as the motor mount will accommodate it.

I recommend checking out the Losi Tenacity SCT. In my opinion, it's better than the SLASH 4x4 and is compatible with SCTE 3.0 parts.
