A guy at our local clubs races has a z.28r in his buggy. The motor runs great but he cannot control the power at all. He has put a huge clutch bell trying to tame the pull but that didn't help much....

I've had good luck with Hitec HS-7954SH. Fits your budget for under a $100 and you can run high voltage if you want.. Plenty fast enough for steering IMO even with a 6v pack..I purchased from below...
