Noobie question about drift RCs
Hi everyone, sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to the hobby. Is it possible to run 1/10 scale drift rc cars in flat, smooth dirt (think baseball infield dirt) with just a decent set of 1/10 scale tires, or would it take more converting than just that? Thanks for the help.

I doubt enough ride-height could be obtained for even the smoothest dirt and as well, most drift cars have very open drive trains, i.e. highly susceptible to rock damage and dust abrasion. Furthermore, a counter-steer setup drift car probably would never even achieve a walking pace on dirt without just doing donuts. I wouldn't recommend it.
What you could look at for a multi-use, multi surface car is a rally-type one. Some examples can be read about here: http://www.bigsquidrc.com/rc-rally-car-shootout/

I would first get the rally or offroad tires as well and run smaller pinion gear to compensate for the gear ratio.
I would also use different dampers (longer or extended piston stroke) dedicated for this type of driving.
