Looking for input on 1/10th Scale Buggy
Hey there, I have been doing a ton of research trying to decide on a 1/10 scale buggy to race indoors at my local track (carpet) however most of the in depth posts I can find comparing one model to another when searching around seem to be 2-3 years old. All that I have determined is that a 2wd is probably better to start with. Since a lot of these buggy's have been changed from year to year id like your input. as far as parts and support my LHS stocks every brand you could want it seems so I'm lucky in that sense, but it has made it difficult to decide, seems like they are all pretty solid machines but since they all are rollers out of the box some must come with certain "must have" features that others don't. I am willing to spend as much as it takes for a good platform. Thanks in advance!!
Right now I have 2 Rustler VXL's, one is stock (my sons) mine is all hopped up with all kinds of goodies

I would recommend the Team C TC02C Evo. easy to work on, easy to drive and not a huge hit to the wallet. They come with a gear diff where as the offerings by AE or TLR are an additional cost.

If money isn't an option then shoot for the higher end kits. Kyosho, XRay, etc... All kits have their ups and downs and are slightly different in terms of quality of parts, ease of maintenance, durability, etc...Team C is another great bang for your buck too. Find a kit that you like and go into the Electric Offroad forum. There is generally a devoted forum for each platform where you'll be able to obtain lots of information on that particular kit.
What kits have you looked at so far that are appealing to you?

So far the only buggy that has caught my eye is the Schumacher KF 2 (for 2wd), since its my first buggy I can barely tell them apart to begin with but the KF 2 juts looks well made, I am open to others as well =)

I have a b5 and there are all kinds of platforms running 13.5 motors here. The faster ones seem to be the b5m and it's the most common. This thread seems to be who is the better band. In other words, you are going to get different answers from everybody.

The schmacher kf 2 seems like a nice kit but it's designed for high traction surfaces.

Good thing you told because I had no clue! That being said, is there a platform that can be tweaked back and forth? I will probably be on carpet most of the time but it would be nice to have a platform that can run on dirt too, I have yet to see a clay track around here..

Losi 22 2.0 comes with the option parts to run rear motor or mid motor. Generally speaking, if it's a two wheel drive vehicle and the motor is mounted in the middle of the chassis then it's designed for high bite surfaces. There are other 'mid motor' designs but the motor is located just in front of the rear axels which is probably something you're looking for.
Here are some to look at. I've also included a link to the B5 rear motor.

Thanks a bunch for your help!! Choosing from a handful will be much easier, I will just apply my mechanical background and choose based on what design "makes the most sense" to me, thanks again!!

looking at the above options, use this criteria to decide:
1) what do most of the local guys run?
2) does the hobby shop carry parts.
3) talk to the local fast guys and figure out which ones are willing to talk to you? willing to help? If they are very willing to help and treat you with respect then I would highly consider copying what they have. because they can help you figure things out and maybe even provide some of their parts when you need them most.

The Serpent out of the box is race ready. You need a smaller spur gear if you run stock.
Take a look as the Serpent FB page. It's an active community and Serpent team drivers frequently ask questions.
Because parts availability is not an issue and you are willing to spend to get the right car, it's really going to come down to personal preference and which gives you the best support.

Yea I am going to the track this week again and will see what these guys are running, there is a friendly group that runs 1/10 scale frequently. I should have played closer attention when I was helping flipping them back over >.<
