Default battery and charger info

ok so i keep seeing threads asking about batteries and chargers so i thought i would try to start one with the info in one place. this is mainly about lipos but i can add nimh batteries and life batteries if wanted. so post back what chargers and batteries you use for what purpose and i will update this with them
remember ALWAYS USE A LIPO BAG and preferebly an ammo box.
useful info
battery amps=mah divided by 1000 multiply by discharge (c rating)
charge at the rate battery manufacturer states for the baattery. if no rate is stated charge at 1c
1c is mah divided by 1000
when choosing a lipo try for 20amps more than needed.
higher mah=more runtime
higher c rating= its been desribed as "more punch" correct me on that though
always use low voltage detection or an alarm set at 3.4v is good.

chargers for people who want a decent charger low price
http://www.amazon.com/iMax-LiPo-Bala...s=rcjuice+imax
and the perfect power supply for it http://www.amazon.com/RCJuice-Power-...s=rcjuice+imax
i personally own 3 and no problems i dont balance at the end though or else it takes quite a while
please suggest more budget chargers

budget batteries
http://www.amazon.com/Turnigy-5000mA...gy+2s+hardcase
http://www.amazon.com/Venom-4000mAh-...gy+2s+hardcase
http://www.amazon.com/Venom-5000mAh-...gy+2s+hardcasehttp://www.amazon.com/Turnigy-4000mA...gy+2s+hardcase
http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?...ory&path=67_97
these are good for bashing. when choosing a battery amps is important. to calculate amps you do this mah divided by 1000 the multiply by the c so say for example the battery is 4000mah 20c that gives constant of 80amps which will be great for 65a motor

chargers for people who race or need batteries charged quicker
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...DkQaApfH8P8HAQ
http://www.towerhobbies.com/products.../tkpp5000.html

more expensive batteries for higher amp draw still 2s
any of these are good http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...SortOrder=desc

budget 3s lipos
any on here are good for the price http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...SortOrder=desc
ive had a couple zippy batteries and they were good http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...SortOrder=desc
ive heard good things about these http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?...ory&path=67_99
and again just calculate the amps needed for the use. more mah=more runtime and more c discharge has been described as better "punch"
receiver packs that ive found suggested

articles about lipos
http://www.rogershobbycenter.com/lipoguide
http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-lipo-batteries.html

any other recomendations will be nice as ive seen many battery related questions.also receiver pack recommendations for new people would be nice anyone have some?
here is thread asking about multi port chargers i will post the suggestions later as i am out of time right now
http://www.rctech.net/forum/rookie-z...-chargers.html
good slash 4x4 stock batteries
6900mah smc
7200mah smc

Stampede 2wd battery suggestion(stock or vxl)
turnigy 4.2 nano tech shorty pack

Thanks for posting this. The should be a sticky IMHO..

This is great info for us old farts who are getting beck into the hobby after 20+ years. The technology has come a long way from a 15 mn dial charger for about 10 min of run time.

Went out yesterday with my boys and the power these LiPo batterys produce is amazing. The runs times seem like forever ,full power the entire time, and so did the smiles on the kids faces.

Still need to buy a couple more batteries..

if it doesnt become sticky we just have to keep posting to keep it on top

I am on a land cruiser website and they have many of the faq as stickys at the tops of the threads for each model year . Was a huge help to me as a noob over there as it was very easy to look up and read through all the popular and frequent questions.

Maybe link some of those articles about LiPo batteries articles here so this thread could be a one stop shop if you will.

Thanks for putting everything into one place!

There is a thread on 17.5 stock racing batteries that has some nice suggestions on shorty pack batteries.

It would be nice to get an overview of what type of battery you need for each application (stock, mod, crawling, sct, 4wd, etc)

I would also like to understand how to choose a separate power supply charger combo. Like which specifications to look for.

Once the all encompassing battery thread is done, someone needs to get motivated and create the ultimate pit hack thread

Thumbs up

Hey Mods,

Would it be possible to make this thread a sticky at the top the the rookie page ? I fell this will help people while searching for commonly asked questions, and also a place where people in the know can add info..

Just a thought..

Please let us know if this can happen.

Thank you all for the great site. I have learned a bunch..

I don't think a thread that lists a few of the many available brands of products would be a viable sticky. That would put the site in an awkward position of appearing to endorse some brands over others.

Never thought about it that way, but I understand your point ...

I just wanted a place where someone could easily find the info and have to search all the threads or keep starting new one..

I have been on other websites where they were set up with all the faq's as stickys at the to of the pages and it made my life so much easier.

But I totally understand the site needing to not endorse one product over the other..

Thanks for the info and the great site I have learned so much.

Listing actual products also gets dated quickly. A sticky for links with generic info is a good idea though.

Well if it doesn't get stickied then we can keep adding to it so it stays near the top. As soon as i get access to a computer i will add more. Also most of this is just going though threads here and other forums finding what people recommend since others are too lazy to do so and make a new thread. Besides i like just reading about what other people do
