Lower kv for SCT racing?
 
So I was looking around for a esc/motor combo and I noticed that dynamite has a combo that claims its for sct looks like a good esc rated at 130a but the motor is a 3900kv.
What diffirence would this make opposed to a higher kv rating?
What are the benefits of having a low kv rating and a high kv rating.
Is it just a matter of how you will be using it, I know if you have a higher kv you will have more torque but why would they make a combo with a low kv rating?

kv is rpm per volt. a lower kv rating will spin slower, but have more torque.

is this for 2wd, or 4wd act. Im guessing 4wd?

It is for a Losi SCTE 1.0, I have a 4300kv in it now but was wondering why they have a 3900kv sc combo and if I would be better off with that.

KV alone isn't enough to compare motors, unless they're otherwise the same motor. What I mean is, for 4x4 SCT applications you can have both 540 and 550 sized motors, and 2 or 4 pole (magnets). So, comparing KV ratings between those wouldn't really work. What motor do you have now?

I don't run 4x4 SCT but I've seen people using all kinds of motors. It seems like 540 4-pole are preferred by some for the weight savings, while others just do 550 2-pole. Of course then you also have 550 sized 4-pole motors, for when you absolutely have to have power that you can't possibly use. :rolleyes:

I have a gForce 4300kv 4 pole 540 motor and just recently I bought a Turnigy Trackstar 120a sc esc that I can not wait to try out. Too much snow on the track right now.

I don't know much about the motor, but for that price I'd be a little weary. It should give plenty of power, though, especially since you're starting out. There are a lot of other good options out there that won't hurt the bank.

So I now have my 120a sc esc from turnigy trackstar and I am looking at motors. So I am looking at the trackstar motors on Hobbyking and found 2 550 size motors. But they're 2 poles. Also one of them is showing in the specs a max amp draw of 120. This is kind of pushing the limits of my esc right? Also they are se sensored motors but can be run with out the wire?
Another thing would a 540 size can with 4 poles be just as good or better than the 550 can with 2 poles?

You're running the heaviest 4x4sct out there..What do you want from the truck??? What size batteries mah and c rating and are they 2s or 3s???..The higher the kv the lower your gonna have to gear it to keep it cool...As far as 540 4 pole against 550 2 pole its gonna depend on what motors they are.. Give us some more info please!!

I got some links that I will post up of the motors that I am thinking of buying.
I am also keeping an eye on the for sale threads to see if something comes up in my price range around 50 maybe 60 bucks.

My plans for this rig is racing in the summer on a 1/8th scale outdoor track.

That is the track I plan on racing on.
My batteries are Turnigy-Nanotech 5300mah 2s 50~100c and I have 2 of those.

The gearing I have all of these pinions 12t 13t 16t 17t I am planning on buying the 14 and 15t pinion very soon that way I dont have that big of a gap in my equipment. The spur is still stock 40t I believe.

So the second motor that I linked is the one that shows a max current of 120a. Also the esc that I am using is not sensored.

For a 4x4SCT lower Kv and a higher cell lipo is a good combination, in my opinion 2 cell is too low for a 4x4 SCT

2s lipo is standard though. so you can't really run different setups.
