Personal Transponders?

Personal Transponders?
As I stare dreamily at the entry sheets for events like the International Indoor Championships I see a line that reads Transponder: ________
7 years ago when I briefly tried out rc racing the track gave us transponders but from snippets I read it seems that people have their own personal transponders. Is this a requirement now a days? If so where do you get them and how do you know they are compatible with the various lap counting systems. As allows your comments and patience are appreciated.

Personal transponders are a recent innovation and they work incredibly well. One will set you back about $90 and they are used at just about every track nowadays. PT's came out about two years ago but didnt really take off until the tracks started converting their old score keeping systems. My track switched over this past year and most of the drivers have bought personal transponders. It makes life a whole lot easier where you do not need to keep grabbing a transponder before a heat and remembering to return it after. It simply mounts somewhere low on your car, plugs into the receiver for power, and acts just like a regular 'loaner' transponder would, only lighter, and better. Ask your track if they support personals, if they do I would highly recommend getting one.

Whoa 3 channels?? I thought I didn't have enough and I've got about 300..
SNL stands for Saturday Night Live, a sketch comedy show, live, on saturday nights. It's usually where comedians can get their start on TV. Search for 'snl cowbell' or something close. It's a skit where they play the band blue oyster cult and try to record 'don't fear the reaper' and the cowbell guy gets on the nerves of everyone else. One of the funniest skits ever on snl in my opinion.
