Understanding motor temps
I got into off road rc about a year ago and off road racing about a 6 ago and got my first kit about 2 months ago, built it up and recently changed my motor timing and boost setting..etc, so I got a infra red temp gun(http://m.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-Tek4-...4030/100671261) to measure my motor temps so I can make sure I don't go over the limit, I read in the manual for the temp gun that it does not measure metallic objects accurately, that is a problem since my motor(Team Orion VST2 pro 7.5) has a metallic can, I also read a article on rctech about pointing the laser where the wires are, so can anyone recommend a certain temperature that I shouldn't go over, where to scan for my reading and how to go about the fact that my temp gun cant get accurate measurements for metallic objects.

i have no idea if the temp gun measures incorrectly or not, as i have never heard of this happening before on metallic objects. I use a little duratrax infrared temp meter, and it works very well.
as for temps, it will vary from motor to motor as what temps to run, I try to keep my motors under 175 degrees though.
