Motor Help

Hi,

I am building a car from scratch. Having a little trouble figuring out what motor to use.

I understand that the higher kV value or less turns the faster it will go but with less torque...

But if I wanted my car to go 15mph what type of motor should I get? My car is about 11.25" by 9" and its frame is metal (from a vex kit) so its not exactly light.

I'm completely new to this stuff. Any help is appreciated!!!!! :)

You will need to know what your gearbox ratio and type/diameter of tires will be to hit any specific speed target. Once you have that, you can enter and play around with the variables here as it relates to your pinion/spur gear and actual motor: http://gearing.rcgearhead.com/Gearing/Browse

That being said, 15mph is glacial by modern RC standards, if your target is at least 15mph, just about any BL motor will get you that.

I use sensors motors only but the slowest motor out there will do over 15 MPH. That being a 25.5. 21.5 and 17.5 are still manageable motors too.

How heavy is it? What surfaces will it be ran on? Can you provide more info on the driveline, or the vex kit you mention?
