No battery issues with my Legends. I strapped a standard 2-cell LiPo to the bottom.

I don't have tons of build experience, but I can say that Tekno cars are VERY easy to part out to folks in teams. A quick flip through the build instructions of something like the SCT410 will show you this. Hand a few bags (each step is a separate bag) to each person and away they go. Perhaps 1 person on diffs, 1 person on front end, one person on back end, 1 person on shocks, 1 person on electronics (they all go in one side guard and slide on when done). That should get it put together quite quickly.

That's going to be more pricey than the other options (such as the legend car), but definitely fun and possible.

Also, since I see you're in MA, you may wish to hit up the folks at RCExcitement (Fitchburg) to see if they can give you a bulk deal on whatever you decide to purchase for this exercise.
