Help on cleaning
I've posted on this subject before and would like some continued opinons.
I have 4 RC cars, all electric and run at an outdoor offroad clay track. I use simple green and WD40 for cleaning now. I have tried a mixture of 70% simple green, 30% WD40 and also have tried 100% WD40. In both cases, I use air to blow off clay then soak the parts down, then blow off again. I know better than to get simple green in electronics but have used with some care 100% WD40 on electronics but very carefully. Here is the problem I'd like to solve. I do not like the oily film left over from using either mixture. No matter how much I blow the oil off there is still oily residue left on the body and parts. I have seen where denatured alcohol is used and I suspect it will help evaporate WD40 left over on parts. I like to keep my cars fairly clean without getting fanatical. Since I have a mechanical background, I know the dangers of water or dirt contaminents into bearings and other moving parts. I anyone has a good mixture ratio or recommendation on this, please help. Thanks, Rick |
Hi..great problem.. I do know some companies make in inner chassis dirt guard ..I ran a few times in Georgia..and the red dirt what i call clay made cleanup a mess..I just took cling wrap and gave it a few wraps.since none of my electronics get above room temp or outside temps i was fine..also heard Zmaxx works wonders except on carbon fiber NO NO..also a no on electronics but great on bearing..just a blast of air and 99% of dirt clay was gone..That's my suggestions.. Or make ur own chassis guard from plastic window.. 7 minutes in 325 degree oven wrap it over or chassis and makesure u can get it back off .. ur own guard adds weight not sure of lifesapan but better than not..

Motor spray sprayed into a paper towel and wiped over the remaining residue should do the trick.
