so ive got my truck all built and got the velineon brushless in it.

ive been looking at a battery and charger for it and have found the following:

Venom 1581

Duratrax Onyx 235 charger:

i can have both of these for about 160 buxs brand new


any suggestions? or should i pay more and upgrade something?

If you get the venom battery be careful bc the connectors are not very good for the vxl system. you will need to put a new connector on the battery.( you dont have to but it is better to do). My traxxas lipo charger crapped out and i am getting the onyx 235 to try. but DO NOT get the Traxxas branded charger it is not covered under their warranty so if it breaks your out $100

i run those venoms with my slash and it works fine and i also use the traxxas lipo charger and it works great to but thats just my opinion.

i got the slash 4x4 8 months ago i was running the traxxas brand 3s battery. i havent used the truck much and i destroyed the brushless motor. everyone at the track said it was from the 3s.

so you saying i should keep away from the 3s?

ive been considering the venom 1581 battery which is a 20c 5400mah

but for about 10 buxs more i can get the venom 15050 which is 50c 5000mah



any suggestions?


also the charger im considering to buy now is the hitec x4 model #44167 its a little more than i wanted to spend on a charger it costs 200.00 from a LHS

I use a onyx 245 and works good for two batteries at once. I also have a supermate dc6 and really like it. Has charge/balance/discharge/storage for lipo. Can also do nicd,nimh and other types or batteries. Can make the charge amp anything you want all the way up to 5a. Also think i got mine for 50 bucks. Built in power supply and fan.

My son has the slash 4x4 ultimate with the onyx 235 and the venom 25c 2cell 5000 mah lipo. Too fast for him lol.

Sidenote: anyone use the usb port on their chargers for their phones etc?

look for any charger anyone is selling here; they're all pretty good. Batteries: you get what you pay for. Don't buy the cheapest, don't buy the most expensive, find something in the middle. Be careful w/ those venom batt's, I got bit by them once and never again. Nothing wrong with the traxxas batteries if you're just bashing. Gens makes great batts too, as does turnigy. Protech, Thunderpower (Awesome) Maxxamps (awesome) just really expensive; not sure if worth it. I have them all, I use them all, but for non racing applications, why pay for extreme performance. Slash on 2S is way more than enough; 3S is great; just make proper ugrades. Like anything else, power costs.
