Default drifter with sport tuned motor

These past few days I had been searching for information about drifters, I noticed that almost all of them uses tamiya sport tuned motor. My question is that what so special with that motor if used in drifters? Is it better with other motors like tamiya super stock rz/bz/tz? Is sport tuned motor for drifters only or it can be also used for high speed touring cars?

That motor is probably actually tuned to be slower and smoother and thus, more controllable in a drift car. I wouldn't look for any product labeled for drifting to be setting any speed records.

As a longtime drifter, motor selection often times comes down to track size.

When I used to drift a lot (back before brushless were all the rage) I could do pretty well with a mild modified motor, 15-13t range. Stock motors, unless it was a Small track or tight and technical, allowed me to utilize my motor to its maximum. I only ever really struggled on long straights where I lacked the speed, but in the corners and technical areas, I could close the gap.

For drifting, realistically, I would find something in the 3000kv (13.5 to 10.5 range) is more than adequate for drifting. The Tamiya motor you speak of is a slightly tweaked stock motor and doesn't have much for power.

Consider one of the following BL systems.
-Dynamite Fuse
-Duratrax Element
-Traxxas Velineon
-Castle Sidewinder
-Novak Slydr

Hope this helps
