Default New to Rc What New Monster Truck to buy

Posted this in electric off road an i feel it was the wrong place so ill put it here. Mods can delete my older post?

I Decided to Get a Slash 2wd or 4wd an turn it into a Monster slash.

Don't read any more unless you want to know to pick the Stampede over the Savage XS

Thanks for helping me make this decision people of Rc Tech

Gday guys. Been here trying to buy a 2nd hand Rc for a while now iv so far had no luck. Im here today because i am doing my head in deciding on what Monster Truck to buy.

My choices are

Traxxas Stampede 2wd Brushed $271
Traxxas Stampede 2wd Brushless $394 (why is the 4x4 3 inches longer?)
Traxxas Stampede 4x4 Brushless $451
And my favorite from Traxxas A Brushed E-maxx $527

HPI Savage XS Brushless mini Monster truck $393
HPI MT Bullet Flux Brushless $462
HPI E Savage $419

All prices are Shipped to my door.

All prices include battery an chargers if they do not come with the car package.

I would rather buy a bigger size car other than the 16inch ones Ie 2wd stampede and most HPI cars listed above.

My Question is what one do i buy. I want fast speeds an something i can drive on all terrains Rain, Beach, Long grass. gravel, an pavement etc.

I have watched YouTube videos on most of the Above cars an i am no closer to reaching a decision.

I want something that wont break on my first run and wont cost me half the car price to make it a decent basher.

What do you guys recommend from personal experience on what i should be buying.

Please an thank you.

Glow

Something you should keep in mind is what does your local hobby shop carry? Are they mainly Traxxas(90% of them carry Traxxas) or do they carry enough parts for the Hpi trucks? Would you be okay waiting a week for a hub? Or would you rather run out to the shop and pick one up for a dollar more and have the truck running the same day? That should narrow your choices a bit. If you can easily get your hands on Traxxas stuff than the Emaxx is a good bashers truck. The VXL in the emaxx is waterproof so you'll be able to run in the water a bit. I wouldn't go all in with the water. You might have a leak haha.

It would be nearly impossible for me to recommend you look at anything brushed in this day and age. You'll be happier in the long run with something brushless or go all the way and buy this ankle-breaker.

Spend the extra money on brushless! You will not regret it.

If you want a true monster truck stay away from the stampede line, there are comparison videos on youtube to look at, they are much smaller than the e-maxx.

I always go to the savage line of monster trucks, whether its luck or coincidence they have held together better for me than my friends with their maxx series of trucks.

Default Thanks for the help so far.

My main issue is Price. The cars i have listed is they most i am prepared to pay.

I have no transport so i really dont need a local hobby shop. Ebay is best for me at this point in time

I really like the emaxx but i hear it will break a bit an will cost me a bomb to make it complete basher ready.

Im mostly looking at the E savage Savage XS (small i know) and a Stampede 4x4.

Because the XS is New do you think HPI will be releasing Bigger wheels and longer chassis Hop ups down the track?

Money is an issue. ALSO i plan to buy my car from America (cheaper be leave it or not) I would like to have it for when go camping in a few weeks. Smaller package might arrive earlier?? haha

4x4 stampedes are great...but FOR A MONSTER TRUCK, not durable enough. With an E-Maxx your not really looking at top speed... just nice basher torque. As for HPI savage, great monster. You will not be disapointed. However the last guy was corect about the HPI parts. Not many shops got em. So its up to you. Personally, 4x4 pede all day.

it comes down to the Pede 4x4 an the XS flux

The pede doesn't have any problems out of the box as far as i know. The XS flux is most likely going to have ECS problems out of the box.

Pede will come with one Wall charger an one 300mah 7 cell nimh battery.

Flux Will come with 2 lipos 2s at 4000mah - 5300mah inc charger. making it a total of $395. Not including new ESC.
Im thinking the HPI has changed or at least updated the faulty esc from 5 months ago. Rpm also might be making parts for it in future too.
Something that wont break first run something that is Semi fast and something waterproof is the car for me.

AND yes i do know the Xs flux is 14inches an the pede 19inch.

Another vote for the 4wd stampede. I've tried the small scale and found them just to small for real world. Too big for house to small for just bashing unless its in the street. Just my opinion.

my driving will consist of on road an backyard maybe sand. Its only 2 inches smaller than the 2WD stampede.

Is it really worth the Extra $200ish for the 4WD pede over the 2WD?

Not unless you're really, really wanting to drive it through a deep mudhole or similar. There's very little that would get the 2wd one stuck that the 4wd can then go through. The 4wd will accelerate quicker/better on extremely loose surfaces but since this is a fun/basher car and not a race vehicle, the 2wd one should be just as much fun at the end of the day.

your also comparing a 2wd brushed pede to a 4wd brushless - the 200 more includes 4wd and brushless

comparing motor to drive train the 4wd is only 50 dollars more

if you dont get the 4wd atleast get the brushless 2wd - my opinion

Default 2wd pede Or 4wd savage xs. So hard to choose:(

i dident notice i made that merstake. Yes i would get the brushless over the brushed

The 2wd Pede would be $389 with one nimh battery and a AM receiver....
The savage XS would be $400ish with Lipo battery's an charger with a 2.4ghz receiver.

What about the E-Savage? haven't heard anything about them yet. Is that HPI's answer to the Traxxas E-maxx?

Well I still vote for the 4x4 pede or 2wd brushless... Also i wouldnt recomend buying from HobbyKing, I believe most of their product ships from Hong Kong. So your looking 2 weeks plus for your charger. If you still wanna go cheap on some lipos and charger, check out Hobbypartz.com. Ships from California.

Default Thanks so far. Really.

If i get the pede i cannot afford lipos for the next couple of months ha

Ill try an find a cheaper Pede else where but at the moment its going beyond my budget. Will be ever more to get it to come with a decent transmitter

The 2wd Pede vxl from Hobbypartz will be $395 inc postage not inc Lipo
Savage Xs from ebay will be $360 inc postage not inc lipo

The 2wd pede is 16 inch long. 4wd pede is 19 long And the savage XS is 14.2long.
