You can get hundreds of replies for different brands. My opinion is a lrp or reedy.

Once you're down in the 8.5 range, it's hard to find something "slow". You'll be happy with anything brand-name.

Revtech is my 1st choice. I also like Reedy, and Tekin.

Buying used I'd be more worried about condition, who I bought it from, etc. As it is fairly easy to overheat a 8.5 or lower and weaken the magnets.

Thanks for the tips, scored myself some good deals on some Lrp motors so will see how they go when I get it on the track.

I agree, Tekin. You could maybe do a castle... a little less expensive...

I've recently been looking as well, getting back into the sport, and trying to figure out a good way to compare the different motors and esc's in an analytical way from stats/specs, since I obviously can't go drive them all.

I had recommended to me a Teken for the esc, but to skip them and go with either a Phantom or a Reedy for the motor. Seems reasonable, though I'm still not sure on the real "why".

Tekin for the ESC for sure, the RS is great for 17.5 down to around 5.5 to 6.5 motors. If you want to run anything that would take an RS Pro. Reedy motors are pretty smooth. In my opinion Revtech is the quickest motor.
