Returning to the RC world =P and saying hello to this forum.

Hey guys just wanted to come here and say hello! My good friend of mine decided we all should take out our old dusty RC and bring them back to life. So I haven't touched my RC since high school 05'-06'ish. So I am pretty outdated..so please help! =]

Here we go.
My setup is a HPI Pro4 (Old school!) running on a ECS with Reverse forgot what brand but I can look later when i get home.

So I will need help on powering up my RC: Is it worth it to convert to LiPo? (I used to run Nimh) Back then LiPo wasn't as mainstream as nimh and I heard it was dangerous if you don't know what you doing. My current charger can only charge Nimh though but I don't mind buying a new charger if LiPo beats the living cr@p out of nimh.

I am not doing anything competitive, just driving around for fun. Wish there was something going on in the Bay Area though. Is there a reference guide on LiPo battery in general? I've seen 2s 3s 4s and have no clue what they mean. Apparently higher the better I would assume.

So calling out all the electric RC gurus! Please enlighten me with your knowledge.

Whats a good place to buy my stuff online? Reliable brands I should look for and bad brands to stay away from?

Thanks!
David

Welcome to rctech. Grab a couple who cares what brand 3000mah nimh. And go play for awhile. While your enjoying it start researching lipo 2S and chargers maybe even brushless. You can check hobbyking and hobbyparts. For hobbywing brushless and turnigy batteries and chargers good inexpensive way to start. All in one shot.

So is the Lipo 2s is what fit in my Pro4? Brushless is a type of motor I would assume? Thanks

Usually in 1/10 touring 2s is the biggest battery you can fit without moding the chassis
Brushless is a type of motor and runs much more faster and effecient than brushed. Also has little to no maintenance

Update*
Decided to go the lipo route. Bought a 60c 6000mah lipo from promatchracing and a novak lipo cut off. So excited to bring this pro 4 back to life. Its safe to run those batteries on a brush system right? So my chassis is pretty dirty what would be the best way to get some rust off the screws etc.? Wd40?

Thanks

If by bay area you mean Cali San Fran Bay Area, check out NorCal Hobbies (Union City). Great tracks, races on Sundays, open practice (good place to go with friends and just run all day) on other days. I plan to be up there on some Saturdays soon...waiting for the starter truck to arrive that I'll use (older 2wd slash) to teach the wife (and run myself to remember how to drive) while I build up buggies with some friends (see other thread here in rookie area).

Here's some vids from the racing this weekend at NorCal (only one of the larger track, where the 1/8 races happen, but I intend to spend more time on that once I get things built).
