Default Motor/esc/battery

I'm having trouble figuring out the connection between esc, motor, and battery. If I have a stock msc/motor in a tl-01, what is the highest in nicd I could use? What about nimh?

Could someone point out an inexpensive esc/motor/battery combo that would work for me? Probably most interested in nimhs, lipos scare me...

I'm not trying to be dense, just don't want to buy parts I cant use, while getting the most out of my car...

Your stock ESC/motor will take any 7.2v nicad or nimh stick pack. The mah value is irrelevant. The higher the value the longer the run times.

If you did want to upgrade you ESC and motor on a budget I would suggest:

You can use this combo with your existing nimh packs and if/when you decide to make the switch to lipo you'd already be good to go.
