Cool turnigy discharge mode failing

I have a Turnigy Accucel-8 which charges fine. the problem is when I try to discharge the charger runs for 5 seconds (with fan coming on, this is some kind of a clue because other wise fan rarely turns on) I get a warning error message.
CONTROL FAILURE - "the processor can not continue to control the feeding current by any reason. The unit needs to be repaired". I'm assuming unit means the charger as I have two Orion 3300mah Nimh and both create the error message.

Is discharge cylcing important to nimh's, my understanding is that it prolongs battery life if done correctly. Gues I could always make one of the light bulb deals and do manually.

My 1st question is how important is cycling and has any one else had this problem.
