bashing/random battery ?s
ok so winter is here and theres going to be snow and snow is obviously wet. i have a slash and i want run time to be improved but i heard lipos and water do not mix at all. i know lithium automatically reacts with water but would a hard case lipo be fine? and what nimh batteries could i use thats cheap and that would work for the velineom system in snow? im not going to be in deep snow but itll be on the street right after it snows about an inch if that. its also a 2wd
thanks for any help

I'm pretty sure those newer VXLs come with a 7-cell nimh. That should provide good punch but as they weigh so much more it may slow you down some at the same time. You should be okay with a hard case lipo but personally I don't run lipos in the snow unless I seal the seams of the case with black tape. Just remember to take the tape off before you charge the lipo though.
I'd just get a couple of good (4200 mah or more) 7-cell nimh for running in the snow, but that's just me.

thanks for that. i just wanted to make sure not to buy lipos if they would get damaged and be a waste of money

There are plenty that run lipos in the snow and have no probs. Lipo contains no free lithium to react with water, so that will not happen and there's not really that much lithium in a lipo anyway. Getting snow on the outer case isn't going to hurt anything. What you don't want is getting water inside a lipo battery where the internal wiring is connected to the individual lipo cell tabs.
Maybe wrap the lipos in some saran wrap or use some shoe goo where the wires go into the case.....wipe them off when you get done running. Lipo doesn't like cold temps, so start running them with them warm, room temp or higher - you'll notice a performance drop if you start with them cold. Plane guys that fly in cold keep them in a shirt pocket until they start flying.
