Questions?? Newbie needs advice on ESCs

I'm new to this forum and to ESC electronics in general.

I have a unique application that spans E-bikes and RC and I hope you will forgive me if my question isn't exactly specific to RC.

I will be buying an E-bike hub motor of 36 or 48V and over 500 Watts. It will be brushless, gearless, with Hall effect sensing, not pedal first. I have been told that my application will require a sophisticated 2 quadrant motor controller such that I can specify the level of "ramp up" of the acceleration and also the deceleration.

Can someone please comment if the Castle Creations Phoenix ICE HV 80 Brushless ESC is appropriate, or if there are better alternatives?

I understand that the programming can be accomplished with separately purchased software.

btw, what does ICE stand for?

Thanks

Sam
