Getting Back: RC10B4.1 / RC8be Questions

Returning to the hobby after a bit of a hiatus.. more so due to my hobby ADD issue.. and when old dinosaurs come back so do questions..

Anyways I've got an old RC10 B2 that runs well, but I sorta want something new.

With both the RC8be out since last spring and the RC10b4.1 around the same time, is there any danger of getting an outdated kit? Has there been any updates (other than the +3mm chassis for the 8be) to either kit to make it more current? Is Team Associated working on a successor for either car?

Do any clubs still run the AM surface frequencies, or is 2.4Ghz a requirement now?

My intent is for a little backyard/field running, but also there's an occasional weekend race at the local track.

Thanks,

First, welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forum.

Not many people still run AM radios but 2.4 ghz hasnt been a requirement at any of the places i've been. Based on convenience, you probably would do yourself good if you went out and got a 2.4 ghz system. Both the 8be and b4.1 are great buggies and i think will be around a good while longer. I know the rtr b4.1 comes with a 2.4 ghz system.

the RC8be will be better for bashing/field driving because it is larger and 4wd, but both are fun buggies. AM radios are still allowed, but prices of 2.4 radios are dropping and many budget systems are available that will make your life much easier. Check the most recent RCDriver issue for a list of all the budget radios on the market now, like this Spektrum dx3e ... http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/D...ProdId=SPM3160

Check with you local track. Some tracks required 2.4 radios... period.

They are not that expensive and I thought I seen some starting at $69 bucks.

RC8Be is what I would get, and AE has about 349 updates out there. I will not expect to see a new buggy out until after the 2012 Ifmar worlds in Brazil. But they are due a new chassis so are a few other manufacturers. I will expect to see the Factory Team Ryan and Ryan testing new stuff next nitro season, Feb 2012.

If you wanna get a head up for EP buggies - Check out the 2011 ROAR 1:8 Electric Nationals Sept 8-11 at the HobbyTown USA Hobbyplex in Omaha, NE

This is where you will be able to see whats new.. What the TEAM guys are running.

Thanks for all the replies.

I also considered a RC8T FT with a conversion kit, but that pushes me up into the $650 CDN range.. and my hobby shop is pushing a Durango 410 at that price.

I've never driven a truggy before either, so the 8T is appealing, though not for that price. If I go that route I might have a static model for this year and fill in with the electronics next year.. and a hella sweet looking static model for the fireplace for the next 9 months too.

b4.1 is solid you will get a kit that is right

rc8be maybe not so much ....they are coming out with a new addition of the rc8b nitro so they may or may not come out with an updated electric version ...but for 409 and some cupons tacked on at amain hobbies the current rc8be is solid
