Default A word of caution

Well I never thought it would happen...

I was glueing tires for my 1/8 scale last night. I was using a quick set crazy glue. Everything was going great.... Until, I guess a little more glue than I had expected went between the rim and the rubber, the rubber slipped out from under my thumb. The rubber shot against the rim and up sprayed the crazy glue right towards my eyes!

Obviously the eyes automatically shut and they were almost glued togeather! I was blinking like crazy to try and break the seal and was VERY lucky that I managed to get my eyes unstuck. I had crazy glue in my lashes, eyebrows and nose. I took my contact lenses out and there was a drop on one of my lenses.

Saftey glasses next time!!

Dude that would seriously ruin your day. That wouldve been a new one for the doctors when you show up at the hospital. I probably would have pissed myself, I couldnt think about being blinded in one eye for even a day until they cut your eyelids apart

Wow!

Silliest RC accident I ever had was years ago, when I was trying to learn to solder, and I was using a cheap iron. Was trying to solder some wires to a stick pack, and I needed a lot of force with my poor technique / iron. So I clamped the pack between my knees, and went to pressing the tip to the wire (where it was to mate up with one of the top cells). Was really forcing the iron down, when somebody came into the room to ask me a question- I lost focus and ended up sticking myself in the leg with the hot iron tip. Still have a little scar. The amount of force it went in with was brutal . Learned my lesson.

I will make sure to exercise some care with tire gluing, having an eye sealed shut would really suck.

wow, lucky you (kinda)

try a medium or "standard" glue...not as quick to set but also not so watery and "splashy"

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who has done this. About 10 years ago I was gluing some 1/10 tires for my RC10T3. The rims were pretty tore up and had rough edges along the bead. The tip of the glue bottle got caught on an edge and then flicked a drop of CA right onto my eyeball. I had someone take me to the ER. The nurse stuck a suction cup deal right on my eyeball. The suction cup was attached to an “IV” bag. They turned the drip on to the max and that stuff was cold! It ran for like 15 min too. I think it was saline solution. I know what you mean about being cautious now. Everytime I go to glue tires now, I’m all Mr. Saftey dork.

Take care of your eyes, fingers, ears, everything. You only get one of each and they're not replaceable. Im all for safety, after all I am the safety guy at my work but its important we stop ourselves at home and wear proper personal protective equipment for the work being done. All it takes is a slip off the improperly placed ladder, or rock being thrown from a mower, or super glue in the eye, or.....
