Default best batteries for stock racing

My son and I are very new to RC racing. We bought a Stampede and race it in the stock class locally. In stock class we have to use only 1500mah for batteries. What would be the best to buy just to use for racing?
Heres a pic of my son playing with it while we wait for my wife to finish showing a house.

Check Ebay also. Use the search word " 1500 " and you'll find some excellent deals. Although Tower does have some good deals sometimes. If you do progress up to stronger batteries, remember not to buy something you can't charge with your existing charger. Seek advice if you move up to batteries bigger than 2400mah or to matched packs. Good Luck and have fun !!!!

Since you are racing new and use a stampede, DO NOT DEADSHORT. Its dangerous if you don't know what you are doing and it is hard with a stick pack. In that class the extra punch gained won't be noticeable and you will shorten the life of the batteries. Good luck.

1500 aren't really meant for the serious racer, so just go with the best priced cells you can find. Don't go Nicad. I've found ones for $20 at Hobby People. Most of the new 1500 you find aren't going to be matched and they usually all get them from the same supplier and just put their own label on them. There's really only Panasonic and Sanyo, but all the companies that sell batteries just use their own matching system and market them independently. So racers refer to Reedy or Trinity vs. Orion. What they are really comparing are the numbers on the cells and how they were tested to acheive those numbers. Matched cells from these brands are really only done on 3000 or 3300 unless they are old. So for 1500 most likely it will be luck since everyone isn't matching and getting the cells from the same place.

So the 1500 you buy will be fine, as long as they last a race, and in stock you should make it. Also, if you're looking to gain performance, and need to stick with 1500, look at your charger and motor for gains. Save some money and gain other places.

Well my old charger crapped out on me, so brought it down to the LHS I bought it at and he hooked me up with a Super Brain 959 for $30 brand new. I like this charger a lot more than the last one. Not sure on the numbers though and what they are supposed to be. Like I got 7.2v batteries. Why is it when I charge them they go up to 9v and drain to 7.2v, is that right? The directions suck horribly for this unit. Did searching on taking care of batteries but still a bit lost. I read to drain them no further down then .9v yet after I ran them to when the truck barely moves forward they registar 7.2v? Can someone please explain these batteries or send me to a good place.
