Default New to rcs any info appreciated.

So I've been looking into purchasing an electric rc car and for the time being Im thinking about getting an inexpensive car for experience before buying an expensive car. So I was wondering what sortta things should I be looking at when purchasing a car. Also what brands for brushless motors have you guys found to be reliable? When is it necessary to change an esc and what is it? Any other info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the jungle.
Be for-warned. There is truly no such thing as an inexpensive RC. It's just a matter of "when" you spend the money.
If you go too cheap the car will either under perform or continually break. In either case you will probably become frustrated and not stay with it. I think $250ish is a realistic number.
If you are going to run at a local track, go down and watch and see what you like to figure out what type of rig that you want.
The most important thing is to make sure that you can get parts for whatever you get. You will need them.
I suggest an RTR as it will have a smile on your face within a few minutes, and you can upgrade as you go.
If you get the right car/truck, aside from a couple of minor tweaks, you won't need anything major until your abilities catch up.
Hope this helps
Vic

I'd go with an RTR from Traxxas....the Rustler and Stampede VXL's are a great choice for 1st timers. One thing no matter what you get...def get brushless right from the get go. If you think it is too fast at first there are settings on the Traxxas speed controls that let you tone it down to "training mode". You will have a blast!!!

Welcome to the craziness. All you can say is practice as much as you can. Find out what tires work at your local track if you plan on racing later on. Good Luck and have fun.

With any inexpensive RC car, make sure you can get parts for it somewhere, somehow. You will break things and need parts support. Thats wher ebuying a Traxxas RTR will come out ahead - parts ar plentiful nd easy to find either at a lhs or online. Check with your lhs before making a decision and see what kind of parts they carry.
