Starter box?

What is a starter box, and what does it do? do you have to have one for a nitro car? thanks

Here is a starter box
This is the one I use for my 8th scale buggy it has very high torque. I use the Team Associated box for my NTC3. Its a very good box also. Starter boxes are worth the money. Pull starters are a pain in the neck. Especially when you have a new engine and the piston and sleeve still bind.

I got that one in the picture off ebay brand new for 50 bucks plus 20 for a gel cell. If you do buy one make shure its made from stainless steel. They hold up better and look better longer than the painted ones.

starter is a device shaped in a rectangular prism that contains motors and battery which spin a rubber wheel that protrudes out of the top of the starterbox. When coming in contact with the flywheel of an engine, it spins the flywheel which in turn, gets the piston moving, which starts the car.
It is not necessary to get a starter box if your engine has a pull start. (much like a law mower)
Hope this helps.

as Neil said...

STARTER BOX are actually to START a RACE engine. Because race engine has HIGH COMPRESSION on top of the piston thus making the piston VERY VERY hard to move up and down. Only STARTER BOX with HIGH TORQUE are able to move the race engine.
If you are using RTR, usually it comes with a PULL START engine. Pull Start engine doesnt have the HIGH COMPRESSION as high as race engine thus no need for a starter box to start it.
so........ in short. if you are using SPORT or RTR engine. No need a starter box.
if you are using a RACE engine.... STARTER BOX is definitely going to be in your SHOPPING LIST.

A pull start is a good way to go if you don't want to spend the money for a box.
