Kits and RTR's

Kits and RTR's
I'd like to spend $300 on a kit(edit: 1/8 Nitro Buggy), build it, and add the parts not included later.
Unfortunately, I've only been able to find $250-300 RTR's and $450-1000 kits. I know the RTR's come with cheaper parts, and I'll end up spending 450-1000 dollars anyway, which is why I'm looking for the bare bones.
Why don't they make the same RTR car in a kit version with better parts - minus the radio equipment, motor, etc?
The only thing I've found like that is the Hot Bodies D8 kit
Would the Hot Bodies D8 be a good place to start?
Is there such a thing is a Kyosho Inferno Neo kit? or an OFNA Ultra MBX kit? etc?

What type of car are you looking for? Onroad, offroad, buggy, monster truck?
I agree with what you arre saying about too little kits to choose from. But Tamiya still have many nice kits, HPI has also got some.

Thanks. The upgrade factor was something I was concerned with as well.

Went with the D8.
Should be here in a couple days. Got a workspace cleared. I just need to rob a bank so I can get some decent radio equipment and an engine, etc.
Now i'm wondering if I should have gone RTR.
Oh well, at least I'll enjoy building it.

I still say it's a shame they don't sell say, the OFNA Jammin X1 (etc.) in kit form. Well, I couldn't find it anyway.

you will be happy with the kit. rtr are only good for quick thrills and long headaches. you will be enjoy the kit that you chose wich components you wanted than some peice slapped together at the factory. iv had kits and loved them and got the losi 8t 2.0 as a rtr and regret it every time i run it. sure it goes around the track, but i could have been a lot further along and not cost me as much to have the kit version.
