Default My NiMh packs haven't been touched in 3 years...

I'm not a newbie, but this is SUCH a newbie question...

I recently came out of retirement from R/C and all I had left from before is three Integy 4200 NiMH packs. These things haven't been touched in 3 years. I have a charger on the way and I'll find out soon enough, but what are the chances that these things aren't junk, and that I can at least use them as practice packs?

Cycle them, a lot. If you have a discharger that gives individual cell numbers you can take the cells that survived and make a decent pack. Hardcase lipo's can be had for $20 a piece so those nimh's might not be worth fooling with.

I just got back into it and had a 10 year old Trinity 2000 that I cycled a couple of times and it works great (for being a 2000). Drop to 5.4V and recharge at 1/2C a couple of times and I bet you'll be fine.
Good luck and welcome back. Say goodbye to all your spare time and money

These guys have some advice for reviving old packs - see the paragraph "If your pack has been stored for a long time" a little more than 1/2 way down

Good luck

!!!
When you cycle your packs for the 1st few times, charge them only at the listing on the batt x the # of cells. ( 3300 6 cell- .33 x 6= 1.98 or amps) In your case, .42 x 6 = 2.52 amps. no more than 3 amps. If you try to charge them like you did 3 years ago they will be dead and may go up. If you heard poping take the pack off the charger asap.
