also how cool is too cool and what does that mean?

a motor that is cool after a 5 minute race?
never heard of that problem before...don't see how the motor would stay really cool...like 38c human body temp...
you should be able to touch the motor for 1 to 2 secs before you jerk away.
if you jerk away from the motor when u touch it accidentally then its a bit too hot...

156f degress after a 5 minute run.
is that too hot and if so, what does it mean as far as gearing etc.?

156 is ok, I've run some up to 170, and been ok. But you should keep them around 160 or less. I ran a Hellfire stock to 245, and it still worked, but I don't recommend it!!

Sounds to like you should be able to gear up a tooth or two on your pinoin and still be acceptable as far as temp.
I have run Oval motors that came off the track 300+ degrees and no problem
